"The Plot Against America"

Just finished up at lunch "The Plot Against America" by Philip Roth. This is the first book I've read by Roth and I was not disappointed. This novel about the "what ifs" of World War II America is really fascinating. A lot of historians try to write similar "what if" histories and call them non-fiction is pretty ridiculous. The best way to tackle the "what ifs" of history is do it in a riveting fiction work like that of Roth's. This is the story of a Jewish family in New Jersey and Charles Lindbergh is the President. It follows the course the United States makes while Lindbergh is President during WWII and how his Presidency turns the US into an ally of Hitler's Germany (all a secret, of course). This is all told through the eyes of the Jewish family's eight year old son. A very interesting point of view. The story really gets to the heart of what people are thinking and how the individual is coping with the changes instead of a broad, non-descript overview of the period. Very well done.

Up next: Not sure, I have some new books I may read or may check out an old one. I'll most likely start reading "The Devil Wears Prada" since I got it from the library.
